Last summer I worked pretty dilligently to get in decent shape by the time I returned to college, and it worked out for me. My first two races were pretty decent and I felt I had more than enough improvement ahead of me for the rest of the XC season to continue to do pretty well. Then injuries started to pile up. First it was tendonitis in my left foot. As soon as that got better, I had a rough case of Achillies tendonitis in my right leg that kept me out of actoin. Then I got sick with some unforgivable diarhea that really just drained me while I was injured. Then I got better from both ailments only to suffer from another right off the bat when I developed some kind of weird pain in my left knee. Trainers told me it was an IT Band problem, but it turned out to be much more seroius and I got a Cortisone injection and that has only made it worse. Now it looks like my indoor season is a goner. Last indoor/outdoor season I got two stress fracture is 90 days.
My point is is I am constantly injured to the point where this last XC season I did not have a period of meaningful training since September which meant I struggled all throughout th rest of the season and got me to a point where I don't know if I will get in this upcoming indoor season for which I was really excited for. Also, the last 6 or 7 months have been spent more than 50% recovering from injuries/rehabilitating on a stationary bike or a pool in a training room which just sucks and gives me no enjoyment.
When do I know that I am getting injured way too much? What is my problem? How can I make it better? Perhaps my body just can't handle it? Should I throw in the towel or keep going?
