If Rupp is a no-show, then look for Chris Derrick to get his first USA title.
Any chance Rupp or Derrick don't win?

Weak field.
Rupp should win easily.
I will go a step further than JR and predict that the other 'contenders' will be be in Rupp's sights on the homestretch and they will kick a lap early just to avoid getting lapped.
Rupp has proven he is great. The US in general is very weak here.
Didn't Derrick get an XC title?
Robert Curtis is faster than Derrick and has run a 10,000 this year.
And there's a Kenyan.
What happened to Ben True?
Sorry if I missed something.
No 5k. No 10k.
WAS THIS THE BIG NEWS

No 5k. No 10k.
Sounded like he was trying to get into the Paris 5k.

Agreed about everything in your post except the main premise. Why would Rupp put down the hammer and try to lap the field? He will likely do what he always does - the least work possible and then blow them away on the last lap. He'll probably not even bother to run the entire last lap hard once the outcome has been established.
Rupp by 5 seconds over whomever.
Any word on whether Rupp is running the 10/5 or not? Has he rushed back home for the babies?

http://www.diamondleague-paris.com/Live-StartlistsResults/Overview/5000m-Men/This is really stupid. Stop making us link to your worthless message board to make us access your previews.
Is anyone's stream actually working? I get 2 seconds of running and then 5 seconds of buffering. It's aggravating.

Rupp won easily in 28:12.

Man, that was a sad race.
I bet Rupp does 10k tempo runs closer to 28:12 than 28:12 is to his PR/AR.
26:44 -> 28:12 = 88s
28:12 + 88s = 29:40. Can Rupp tempo ~4:45s for just over 6 miles? Definitely.

OK, 6 seconds. Close enough.
