They run all out sprint for 90 plus minutes.
They run all out sprint for 90 plus minutes.
I bet none of them can.
alot of them are faster than most people on this forum
They can barely run 10K in 90 minutes.
yes, over 10*40yards with 5min rest

You would lose the bet.
The kid in gym class broke 5 minutes in the mile with Ease. He is on the school soccer team.
But he likes soccer.
So what? High school kids run 4:10 in the mile.
4:10 is about 12-15 seconds from the top 25-50 in the world's elite (3:55-3:58). So by extension are you claiming that half the high school soccer players are within 20 seconds of the high school elite (4:30-4:35 1600m runners)? Puh-Leese
I think 4:20 to 4:30 range is a lot more realistic, but soccer players do have a natural talent for the track.
I bet most could run low 4:40s
subtract 10 minutes for the time they are lying on the ground writhing in pain.

I said that high school kids run 4:10 in the mile. I didn't say anything about what half the high school soccer players can run. You made that part up.
Maybe 5:10. They're jogging up the field for half the game and then standing around for another quarter of it.
plenty of these guys could have been very fast at xc and track in particular but they can't do great at track without doing track. Just remember how many of the best high school distance runners have been soccer players (or swimmers--Mastalir twins, Jim Ryun, Alan Webb, ...) and a # like Erin Donohue came straight from soccer to xc and won titles the very same year. But then if you look at a lot of players in the World Cup, they are now pretty stocky for the physical demands of the sport and would have to reshape themselves to be middle distance runners.
Sub 5 - 100%
Sub 4:50 - 80%
Sub 4:40 - 50%
Sub 4:30 - 25%
Sub 4:20 - 5%
Sub 4:10 - 0%
These figures are based on the published mile run results conducted by various club teams from across the globe who have players in the World Cup.
And you're stupid.
Wrong! Most would struggle to break 6:00.

Sorry, but you really are very wrong. I'm not football mad, but even I (your average 4:30 miler) have to accept that footballers are FAST, most quicker than me. Anyone out in the field (i.e. everyone but the goalie) will run loads under 13 for the 100, probably under 12... More of the players will be able to run a 4:20 - 30 mile, than would run 11.9, but still loads...
We are talking about top athletic talents from each nation - football is huge in England, much of the rest of Europe, South America. Every kid wants to be a pro footballer. Even Mo Farah has said he'd prefer to be a footballer. Talent gravitates to football almost everywhere other than the US...
Hope everyone enjoyed that little rant!
I'm sure half of a world cup team could break 5 - these are some of the best athletes on earth. But watch what they do - they stand around around half the time. It is hardly continuous running. They would be better 400m runners than milers.
there have been many threads on this - the problem is the lack of accurate data. You see everything from some soccerhead claiming his entire high school soccer team ran under 5, to some actual training program for a pro team that suggested 2 or 3 guys could do it.
I do think the best athletes migrate to soccer and let's face it - the remnants do track. So you can't say 'well on my cross country team only 5 guys can break 5" cause most likely the best athletes in the school are doing something else.
