I was a big steeple fan last year with the likes of Coburn and Quigley but the 'quality' just wasn't quite the same this year.
Pics please!!!
I swear Kipp had an injury issue or something during the race. After one of the water jumps you could see that her stride had a bit of a limp to it and when she landed after the final water jump she cried out and looked like she was in a lot of pain.
If this is true I wonder why she didn't say anything in an interview, covering up to not scare away sponsors maybe?
Kipp looked very bottom-heavy, like she's missed some training in the last few weeks. I wouldn't spend a dime on her yet, she is not a Barringer/Coburn talent. The O'Connor girl looked tremendously smooth. One of the best water-jumpers I've seen.
Everybody praises Wetmore, and deservedly so, but Walt Drenth is quietly becoming a steeple coach on that level. Lisa Aguilera, Nicole Bush, and now O'Connor. I think Bush is with Robert Gary's group now, but I'm not sure Drenth coaches post-collegiates at all. If you were to pick the 3 favorites for the '16 team, you'd probably have to go with Coburn and the two MSU alums. Bush just opened her season in 9:34 in Tennessee winning by 20 seconds.
Let's not forget about Nicole Bush's training partner Stephanie Garcie down at Furman. Crushed the American 2k Steeple record Teo weeks ago and then ran a new PR of 9:29 today at Adidas.
