Who is she?
I first heard about her at Pre when she won 200m.
While still at it, Shelly Ann F. is becoming an enigma. Always last!

She has a solid background:

Looks like she was a slightly above average her entire career. A high school (handtimed) 12flat 25flat runner who managed to run just under 24 by the end of college. Maybe she competed for small/underdeveloped programs until recently. Always been an above average jumper though. Inn an off year, it's a good time as any to try new things.
I'm happy for her. She didn't have a contract till she made world indoors. And taking it another level this outdoor season. Very beautiful girl.
Dang those are some long arms. She must rock the take out at Taco Bell.
She's a country girl from Mississippi dominating the Diamond League- thats who. Standing up out of the blocks going 11.05...
I saw her at the Pre meet. They put her in lane #1, against a world class field. She won in 22.18, a good but not an exceptional time. However, if she had been in lane 4-6, she would have been sub 22 seconds. Quite impressive.
With such marked improvement, there is only two questions to ask:
1. Who is her coach?
2. And is she doping?

It is an exceptional time moron. Fastest time in the world this year. Last year it would have been second only by .05.
Given that it's also only early June and it was lane 1, it's a mind blowing performance.

More nonsense talk- do you nerds speak like that in real life
She is my hero but just for one day

She ran no sprints in 2011 but made big LJ improvements going 6.64 into a 1.6 wind to win her national meet. She then went 11.28 and 11.14 the last two years but didn't run the 200. So it's not really that big a leap, no pun intended. Her 23.98w from 2010 was not really a true representation of her speed coming into this year that she'd developed since then.

22.18 is t39 all-time world performers list ahead of Torri Edwards, Lauren Williams, Cathy Freeman, Jeneba Tarmoh, Christine Aron, Kelly-Ann Baptiste, Bev McDonald, Kim Duncan, Ferguson-McKenzie and Blessing Okagbare.
Seems like a similar progression to Jeter. SLightly above average throughout college. Pushing through doubt and having small improvements with a bit of world class potential shown. Then, eventually the breakthrough. Seems like a story like this should get a lot of positive praise.

Bowie has been showing speed even before her 2011 break thru season when she won NCAAs in the long jump.
Here is a sneak peak into her developing years. Watch from min 2:22

Walking down 30+ feet a very strong field in the 4x100 after a near full stop.
She had world class flying speed for few years already it was a matter of time to become better with the start and driving phase. Good all girl from MS, native and clean.
My understanding is that she trains at Clermont, where you also find Lance Brauman, Dennis Mitchell, Gatlin, Gay, etc. Is ANYONE clean on that track?
As for Fraser-Pryce, at least 2 members of her club (Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson) were among the bunch of Jamaicans who suddenly tested positive after WADA was about to kick Jamaica out of the Olympics for not being "compliant" and not doing any testing. You are probably seeing the "clean" Fraser-Pryce that you should have been seeing all along--Felix comes from being off 9 months with a hamstring and beats her badly in the first race back.

Oh, gee, another moron on LRC heard from.
The IAAF in its article today about Bowie pointed out that she recently moved to Clermont to be coached by....Lance Brauman (more or less what I implied above).
Brauman is an ex-con who has coached 4 or 5 (maybe more but who's counting?) athletes that have tested positive (Tyson Gay, Steve Mullings...). I'm not talking about unfounded allegations about Jeter with nothing behind them, but real drug bans from real positives.
The only way moving from LJ to winning 100m and 200m against world class competition is this easy is if you're cheating. The only question is how long until she becomes the next Lance Brauman athlete to test positive.
What about the Nigerian woman who recently became world class over 100/200 in the past few years? How, do we as a running community rationalize Eric Avila's recovery and road back and demonize this woman? I understand the coaching, but coaching is also quite controversial in distance. hmm...
I don't disagree that the move doesn't help her reputation....but she's been on this path to greatness for several years now. She didn't do this overnight. She was very fast last year, and to be honest her recent 100 wouldn't seem so fast if everyone else wasn't running so slow. She seems built for the 200 and probably had a lowish 22 in her last year. If she's on drugs it probably predates her move.
