I go to the local running store to buy my shoes b/c I want to support the business. I like the people in there and some are decent runners. I am a former D1 guy who can still break 2:30 in the marathon. My last race was a 1:11 and change half-marathon.
I typically buy two shoes when I go in the store. Pegasus and Adios. I run long runs and morning runs in the Pegasus and workouts/races in the Adios.
Without fail, they always try to sell me SuperFeet insoles. I am nice about it and politely turn them down. This last time I decided to ask about them instead of just saying "no." I simply asked why the shoe companies wouldn't just create a better insole if it were so necessary. there is obviously money in it, so why wouldn't Nike or Adidas make a better insole? Running shoes are already separated by need as it is, so why wouldn't a Brooks Beast feature an insole that is made for someone who needs cushion and support? Why wouldn't the Adios feature an insole for someone needing lightweight support? My guess is that they already do.
Listen, I get that the store needs to make money, but are these things legit? Why do they try to sell them to everyone who walks in? If they are legit, why haven't the shoe manufacturers just improved their insoles?
I'm not trolling or bashing running stores; I'm sincerely curious.
