MV boys get championship call
DARNELL DICKSON The Daily Herald on Thursday, December 19
OREM -- What better way to reward the fastest prep boys cross country team in the history of the sport than with the national championship trophy?
Mountain View coach Dave Houle took the phone call from Harrier Magazine editor Mark Bloom, who named the Bruins the 2002 national champions Wednesday morning.
...
"With the girls team also finishing in the top 10, Mountain View has the strongest cross country program in the country."
...
"Each state or national title is a big deal," Houle said. "The thing about this team is it's the fastest in history. They had to go back to North Carolina and handle the pressure. I feel really blessed."
Houle said he and his coaches have added up the top-five individual scores for national prep champions in their state meet, the Great American Cross Country Festival and the Foot Locker championships for the past 10 years. With those numbers crunched, Mountain View's top five this year is the fastest in the history of the sport.
The Great American Cross Country Festival in late September brought together the country's best prep cross country runners, and Mountain View won the meet with a strong performance.

I'm not sure I buy this "fastest in the history of the sport" claim. Didn't Hammond Indiana have an incredible threesome - not sure about 4 and 5 ... I'm sayin pretty presumptuous and misleading.
