Just yesterday, I searched online for this very thread title. I really enjoy the Kinvara and I wanted to try either the A5 or A6 for an upcoming marathon. I don't like the posting in the fasttwitch. What do you consider the ideal distance for the A5?
It really depends on your background. I've run in cross country flats - Nike Waffles then Saucony Kilkennys, primarily - for years, so the A5s, though lighter than either of those shoes, actually feel like they have a little more cushioning. I've heard a number of people who use the Kinvara for training enjoy using the A5s for racing up to the half-marathon, at least. Those who used them for the marathon were used to shoes more on the minimal side. (The Kinvara have the same heel-toe drop as the A5s, but I found the Kinvara to be a bit too squishy for me and I developed some IT band issue. Give the A5s a try on some longer runs and see how it goes. They feel super fast for 5ks, but also have enough cushioning for the longer stuff.
