Why did you delete the post of the guy who originally posted the link?
Questioning The Dictator would not be wise.
44 high, ouch. I know it's early season but you'd think pros like Merritt would be running a decent bit faster than that by now, especially considering collegians like Hall and Lendore are right around that speed right now and in the case of Hall, splitting sub-44 in a relay.
SANTOOOOOOOOOOS
Looks like that 800m strength paid off in that race. I think Santos and Maslak have showed the benefits of over distance racing
Remember that Merritt just beat Kirani James at Drake last weekend. I'm not saying Merritt is anything like Steve Ovett in that popular "Arrogance Personified" video, but it looked like Merritt relaxed 1-2 strides before the finish like he thought he had it won...or maybe he was just out of gas. Merritt has done some distance training in the past, but not 800 meter training.
I need to watch the video again, but given how close several runners were near the finish it would have been pretty dumb to let off the gas. And of course Santos has yet to prove his speed, but his strength in the 400m is unparalleled at the present time (he's my candidate for most likely to emulate Juantorena)
Not to divert the conversation, by I am quite excited for Maslak outdoors. His 6.65 60m combined with his crazy 300m and strong 500m I think promise great things
Lashawn getting beat the day after I got him on DL fantasty is a bad omen

60 Metres 6.65
200 Metres 20.52
300 Metres 32.15
400 Metres 45.24
500 Metres 1:00.36
not bad for an indoor season

The fact that Merritt is allowed to compete is a joke. The change in his physique over just a few months back in late '05 to early '06 is utterly hilarious. But natural, right?
Gotta say that coaching phrase that every coach gives:
RUN THROUGH THE TAPE
I'm trying hard to not make any disparaging comments about anybody, but it really looked like Merritt made a "rookie mistake" that someone with his pedigree should not be making. It looked to me like he really didn't know that Santos was as close as he was, and he shut down 1-2 strides early--and there was a little finger pointing by Santos as he went by.
Frickin' love this guy.

i suggest you take a cold shower
6.65i is something like 10.2/10.3 outdoors for a 400 guy
that something like a 20.2/20.4 for 200 for aforementioned strength guys, consistent with his 20.52i which woud normally be ~ 0.25s quicker outdoors
lashawn has run 19.98 & i saw that race on tv - it shoud be on youtube
he gave up at the end when finishing only ?5th/6th
i have no doubt he was good for 19.8+ that day if he'd run hard to the line
when that pole runs 20-flat, that's when you need to get your viagra out for his 400 prospects
he'll go 44.4 this year & may just get schonlebe's 44.33, but he ain't going 44.1/44.2
not enough speed for that
Geez Vent I just said I was excited because I think Maslak is having a breakout year and could maybe surprise us.
Also Maslak is Czech not Polish
if you'd bothered to follow the sport, he already said he coud run 44.4 after danzig gold, which was a perfectly reasonable statement
your "excitement" about the ruskie is hugely unwarranted & out-dated
Hey Vent, I was excited back when he said that. I really am sorry for showing enthusiasm for an athlete I like though, I know how stupid that is.
If you want though we can talk about how amazing Jim Ryan could have been! Did you know he could run 3:24??
Keep in mind that Merritt and James ran 44.4 at Drake, and they're likely to go up to a second faster than that this summer. 44.4 isn't going to win many DL races, and anything over 44 might not win a medal next year.
Actually I apologize for the sarcasm, I just don't get why you had to be hostile? Or are you trolling?
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
