True's great performance indicates a strong possibility that he would have beat Lagat in the Carlsbad 5000, where Lagat was 6 seconds behind Gebremeskel.
Why in the world is Bobby Curtis running the 5K and not the Boston Marathon? I had that boy pegged as the next great American marathoner.

not necessarily.
not bad for a guy saying he's coming off his worst winter of training & has not worked on his speed!
Good Golly Miss Molly! She killed a fantastic field- way tougher than Carlsbad. Bleasdale tanked this one
True is deadly over any surface. Sub-13 on the way....
Lagat was 9th ;)
Thought Flotrack was going to broadcast these races. Heard they went to the wrong finish and missed the race. I know in the preview that they did (which was such crap) they said how the 5k's. mile and marathon all use the same finish. Sorry boys got that one wrong.
She must've closed fast. I was with her until maybe 2 miles in 9:56. Great run.
This is a big LOL!!
Gebremeskel used about 60% effort for that race. True gave 100% effort. The pictures from the race will prove this point.

you funny
The pictures will show that True, Gebremesekel, and Sambu were running side by side with fifty yards to go. If a guy is in "40 percent" better shape, he doesn't run that way. At the same point in the race, Huddle was five yards ahead of second place.
I think it's a great opener for True - it's faster than he's run for the past two years at the same race.
Hope he's drinking that Sam Adams 26.2 Brew at a local watering hole as we speak.
Gebremeskel predicts 12:56-58 for True on the track. If he was "60%", that means he expects 12:34-12:36 haha
True is on fire this year
Anyone know what the Payton 5k field will look like? If a strong international contingent shows up I expect Ben to break 13:10, if not he will likely end up doing lots of the work again and running about 13:15. Either way I am excited to see him start a very promising track season.
I like what Galen Rupp has been doing at championships but as a fan I can't help but root for Ben in any race he is entered. He just represents the US so well when he seeks out these races with the best in the world, and is unafraid to push the pace from a long way out. Its a shame he doesn't have too many high-profile cross country and road races to go to, but hopefully this will be the year where he gets that first Diamond League win or major time barrier (sub-13 or sub-27). Then when we finally get to the next world championship (500 days from now) he should be ready for a shot at the podium.
