Some Facebook friends want me to try Hoka shoes. They are ultra trail runners mostly but do road marathons too. They swear I could benefit from these Hoka shoes even down to the 10K distance. I asked them, what about 5K? and they said I shouldn't bother with 5K anyway so it was a moot point.
But Im confused because these same FB friends were big into barefoot techniques after reading Born to Run a few years back and cited numerous scientific studies at that time.
So when I pointed out that the Hokas seemed to be the opposite of barefoot running and reminded them that they used to run workouts with no shoes on, they acted like I was stupid or something.
But then one explained that they are running faster with the Hokas than barefoot and won her age group in a marathon with Hokas on, so that just "goes to show you."
But so I do not really know what that does "go to show" so can any scientists on here tell me whether to run barefoot or with Hokas?
