So I've been wondering; what is the fastest 5000 ever run where one of the 1600 splits was sub 4:00? I know the U.S. Championships 5000 was won in like 14:51 with a sub 4 final 1600, but there must be a faster time out there.

I believe one of Haile's WR's finished sub 4. I remember watching as the pacers messed up the pace, and then ditched out early. Only one thing for a real man to do: break 4 minutes while also setting a WR.

Ya think? 2011 USAs had a sub-4 split for about 13:20, as did the 1972 Olympic final and I think the 2013 world final.
The 5000 at Monaco in 2011 had a final 3 laps of 2:55, but probably just barely missed a 4:00 mile.

That could be. I know Kenenisa's WR finished in something like 4:01.x.

His split with 1600 to go was 8:40.00 for a final 1600 of... 3:59.36!
New question: What was the fastest 1600 split ever recorded in a 5000?

A 3:59.36 1600 would be a 4:00.-high mile. Bekele's 12:58 at Beijing on the other hand had a 3:57.01 1600, a legit 3:58 final mile (and a slightly faster mile than 2012).
