I'm looking at buying the Adizero Tempo 6 for my everyday training shoe, however, I was wondering whether the 9mm heel-toe drop is too big for a effective forefoot strike?

Yes it is. You need to get vibram five fingers
I sense a slight bias
No I ran in the 5 all of last summer. And I'm a forefoot striker. But I didn't like the feel of the tempos they are too hard.
This is a concern of mine every time I try new training shoes - I am a forefoot striker as well. I just looked at a Google image search for the Tempo 6 and my initial thoughts were that I would pass. The heel, and the shoe in general looks too beefy.
However, the forefoot area is fairly far off the ground as well, hence the 'only' 9mm drop. This would bother me as well. I hate that moon boot feeling, but that is me. I like being closer to the ground in general, and prefer a more racing flat-like feel.
If you are looking for a lightweight trainer with a lot of forefoot cushioning while not being a ridiculous shoe with a huge heel, it might very well be great for you.
If you want to fry something different, the Saucony Virrata has a 0mm drop while still being a very cushiony shoe that is reasonably lightweight, while not being minimal. An interesting shoe. I bought them not for running, but for walking around in. I think they are worth the look though, if what I'm describing is your aim.

I was looking at the Virrata but it has a reputation for having a cramped toe box, historically a bit of a problem for me. Do you have any other suggestions?

Well, I have mentioned the Brooks T-7 recently on another thread. They have a very low drop (more or less a road racing flat) and yet are pretty cushiony in the forefoot, and more importantly, a very wide toebox (I have the same issue you mention). This is what I am training in as an everyday shoe.
Why not have a look at the Inov8 line of shoes?
