Saw where the article on Eaton said the world record 1000 for a multi was 2:27.88.
Thought credit should be given when earned. Beach is a monster and ran 1:01.50 this year in the 500. Should be interesting to see if he goes for it again at NCAAs.

Beach is now 23 years old and his dec PR is barely over 8000 because his throws are still terrible. Does someone know why he doesn't face facts and try to make a career of the 800m?

Below are Beach's PRs added up. They come out to 8474. He has not had a complete multi yet so this year will be the determining factor. However that mark on average would be top 5 in the world and rank him much higher than he could probably do in the 800.
Things to consider:
Top 5 in the world in Decathlon vs. struggling to make the trials in the 800 and even if he did no shot at the world championship final.
He is going to graduate (or already has) with a degree from Duke and make enough money to scrape by most likely. So if the decathlon is more fun why switch?

Rumor has it that he is thinking of switching to the 800 if he doesn't feel 100% with the decathlon by the end of the year
Too bad because Curtis Beach is so close to being a great Decathlete. His strength obviously is in the middle distances, but he is an amazing overall athlete. I think he had a bad injury to his elbow about three years ago, and that is why he can't throw better. He is a great representative for Duke and track and field in general

+1
Well, he's third after the first day and just 5 points off second...
He will make up massive points in the 1000m, so just as long as his hurdles and PV are half decent, he should come up with the win...
He scored a PR in the HJ and an indoor PR in the LJ. He was 0.03 off his 60m PR, but was a bit off on his SP.
...and a PR (8.12) at 60H...
Now second... Just a few points behind the leader...
If he could come close (or even improve) on his indoor/outdoor PV, this could be an incredible performance.
Cleared 4.65, but has 2 failures at 4.75. He needs to clear at least 4.75. I was hoping that he could clear 5.10...
Great, he cleared 4.75 and has now cleared 4.85 on the first try.
His indoor PR is 4.89...
Lazas, who is only a few points behind Beach after 5 events, has passed every height until now and is only planning to start jumping at 5.05 (seems quite risky)
10 guys still jumping at 4.95 in the heptathlon (one already cleared). Isn't that pretty rare? At WC, only 5 guys went higher than 4.80.
Make that 3 guys already cleared (still 10 are alive), including Beach, who just improved on his indoor PR.
To the guy that added up his PRs, it's really hard to PR in the 1500 in a decathlon.

To the guy commenting on the guy who compiled the points. beach now has a new HJ PR. Furthermore, he improved on his hurdle indoor PR (which could translate in a new outdoor 110H PR)... So...
I guess that Lazas knew what he was doing. He just cleared 5.05 on his first try. Still 8 alive at 5.05 (one has now cleared that height).
Beach just cleared 5.05 on his first try. Next height is 5.15, which would be a new indoor/outdoor PR for Beach.
It will be interesting to see how bad all of the decathletes die in the 1000 because it is at altitude.
7 have cleared 5.05. They are now up to 5.15. This is starting to look like an NCAA PV final, not the PV event of an (NCAA) heptathlon.
Beach did not clear 5.15. 3 guys are still alive at the next height of 5.25.
How fast would Beach need to go at the 1000m to break the NCAA record of 6499 points?
