Lane violation.
running out of lane or stepping on or over the inside curb
running out of lane or stepping on or over the inside curb
I'd like for someone to point out the moment of infringement. Not saying it didn't happen, its just not an obvious one compared to the other DQs. Willis seems to spend nearly the entire race in lane 2 and all his overtaking seems to be on the outside. Nothing leaps out and it looks like a tough penalty.
What was the name of the official who made the original call and what country was he from? Was this protested, if so, who protested and what country was he from? Do we have video proof of the DQ?
I can't believe that they can get away with this just by track official committees. After all, this is an international competition and a WC at that!
We need a world tribunal to adjudicate this event and I hope a few lawyers are listening .... this could be lucrative.
From his twitter:

Appeal denied. Painful but serves me right for trying to pass on inside.
ok, the is a point going into the final curve where it looks like he starts to go inside, but ends up going around. I say "looks like" because of the camera distance, but he definitely ends up on the outside. Shame.
He came in like a wrecking ball
How does this decision compare with other DQ's? Is contact and interference more or less of an infraction compared with lane violations, etc.
Are these rulings typical of international WC meets? Can the IAAF justify their ruling? If so, why?
Will Nick seek arbitration either by governing bodies or through the media? If not why?
Will there be a walk-off based on this ruling by the IAAF? If not, why?
Uh Nick, thought you learned that one at Millrose?

Ah! Classic Grunewald special!
Nick should ask Gabe for advise on how to pass on the inside like a pro.
not the first time recently that he's tried to pass on the inside.
He pushed the runner in front out of the inside lane at 3:23.
Watch the video. There was no foul. Track has officially become as political as ice skating. I want to see pushing and bodies fall. That's what sitters deserve. How many times did Pre DQ?
At 3:23 (race time) he is running quite happily down the back straight. At around 3:28, as they are passing the last of the sprint lanes, he has a look on the inside but doesn't really make a move. By 3:30, the eventual 5th place athlete has drifted out, and Nick moves through cleanly on the inside. He is pretty much in the middle of Lane One when he overtakes. Must have been at that 3:28 mark. Seems a bit harsh in the circumstances but Nick will take it.
Will the men in the 3000 hold hands in protest tomorrow after the race?
