There have been major advancements in running shoe technology, but almost no changes in how people find running shoes and according to some no reduction in injury rates. Finding shoes is a very haphazard process that can be improved. We want to be a part of that.
We're going to poll people soon on letsrun about what their running shoe is. We just wanted to see what data we got and how interesting it was. The most popular shoe for a letsrun likely isn't the same shoe for someone on Runners World.
Then we realized, we should get some demographic data. Height, weight, foottype, miles per week, surface you run on could all be correlated with what shoe you like.
Longitudinal data like what shoe you ran in before this one, and what's your favorite shoe ever, might be related to what shoe you run in now and how much you like it. The belief is if we look at enough of this data we can hopefully find a way to help you find better shoes.
I'm just posting this thread for any ideas you might have for some initial data we should collect in an initial poll. We'll fine tune the poll down the road and let you give more detailed feedback on your shoes, but what data do you think would be helpful to collect initially that is related to helping people find the shoe that is right for them?
Thanks. Feel free to email me as well at
