Completely agree on his actions, but we all know they won't fire him. However, what USATF should do is revoke his credentials for the USA Outdoor T&F Championships. Coaches get suspended for harassing officials, verbally assaulting athletes and physically going after coaches in most other sports, so this only makes sense in T&F.
Not going to happen. Although he was out of control with the yelling and berating and pushed too hard on USATF about the DQs there is no way Nike drops him after this. He is an icon there. If this type of behavior persists they might do something. At most they talked to him and said we need to cool it.
What needs to be fixed is the appeals process and the role of corporate sponsorship at USATF.
If this were one of the big team sports, he might get fired, but Nike probably thinks they'd be lost without him. The USATF clearly should sanction him in some way, but I don't expect them to do anything. I never expect them to do anything and I'm rarely disappointed.

Apparently, Nike has a building named after him or something, so it's highly unlikely that something like this would get him fired.
Alberto should retire. It's clear he doesn't enjoy what he does.
Nike will not get any money from me until they get rid of him. Boycott NIKE

Seems a little over the top to me. I haven't really seen any proof that he did anything unethical lobbying for the DQs. I have read/heard enough to believe he behaved reprehensibly towards Lopez Lomong and Jerry Schumacher. Justin Grunewald, I'm not so sure. I'm going to call that one a wash. Clearly he behaved like an immature bully that can't control his temper, but people blow their tops sometimes in the heat of something they are very passionate about. His fire and passion is one reason I think he's been successful.
I'm not for a minute excusing his outbursts. I am saying that these holier than thou posts pretending like this is the outrage of the century are off base. Apologies are necessary. Who knows maybe even a few visits with a counselor are necessary, but if someone blowing their top for a couple of hours at a track meet is going to make you boycott a shoe brand, you have a different way of looking at things than I do.
SALAZAR IS KING at making champions. Easy to forget how much he has put into this sport -
Mo Farah - 2 x Gold at '12 Oly; 2 x Gold at '13 WC
Galen Rupp - Silver at 10K '12 Oly; 4th at WC '13
Matthew Centrowitz - Silver at '13 WC
Cam Levins - 2 National Records, just getting started
Mary Cain - THE FUTURE
Jordan Hasay - THE MARATHON FUTURE
Shannon Rowbury - THE RESURGENCE
T Mosier - THE COMEBACK
I am tired of this realtalk, Nike made kobe bryant why cant they make Alberto Salazar, he has delivered more babies than you have and he has easily made a profitable cause to the humane society, watch out or I'll get my dogs on you WOOF WOOF
He should retire..in fact that was the plan and that's why they brought Jerry on. Pay him a salary to make go away. Nike doesn't need him to sell gear.
lol...I have spoke with many runners and triathletes about what happened during this debacle. You know what I heard? "Oh, were the Indoor Championships on this weekend?"Outside of LRC, people don't care. LetsRun doesn't have the fanbase to be detrimental to Nike, and no one else gives a flying fvck.

I am a HS coach and if I acted like that at a meet, I know I will no longer be a coach. The way he treated Lomong, Schumacher and Grunewald was crossing the line. I will stand by my action
The general public does not know about what took place last Saturday. This means Nike will not risk negative publicity by firing Salazar, even though his actions were disgraceful. Maybe if Salazar was Rex Ryan and running was as popular as the NFL would Nike have to fire Salazar to save face.

I'm a high school coach too and right or wrong, there are different standards for what will get a high school coach fired versus a professional coach. To some extent they play different roles and have different purposes. I'm also still looking for what he did to Grunewald that was so offensive. If Gabe, is it filing the protest? If the husband is it matching his vitrol?

The most likely outcome is that at the right time, all parties will communicate behind the scenes and make apologies and peace.
