Which spike (I am nike biased) is best for a HSer trying to run 9:30 for 3200m indoors? I'm sure there are other threads, but I would like to hear about the most recent spikes for this event.
Thanks...

Tumbos
Dude if your that fast you will have no trouble running in nike Victories, that's what I have used.
Nike matumbo
Adidas Avanti or Nike Victory
Is the mamba a quality spike for 3200?
OG victory or victory elite. That's what I use but I've read many people find the Elites too stiff for that long but I had no problems.
I was one of the fastest 3200 high school runners in California and I wore the Nike Mamba's, so yes, they are quality spikes for the 3200 and I see a lot of good people wear them. I think Kyle Alcorn wore them. I liked them. The victories didn't feel right on my feet. Check out Saucony, maybe the Saucony Endorphins. My friend had those and they were legit as well.

But it sucks because the OG victory is awesome but us non-nike pros can't find them anywhere! Either they're out of stock or they only have the sizes that are very uncommon.
And I guess the mamba is like a hybrid distance spike.
It is quite a shame I agree. Luckily I picked up a pair of elites and ended up liking them for this track season. I don't like the 2's at all though so I got myself a pair of OG victories for next xc season as soon as I found them in my size since as you said they're hard to find in normal sizes.Mcklmre wrote:

That really is a dumb distance

What didn't you like about the victory 2s?

Yep high school American distance. It's not really stupid considering it's 8 FULL laps. But the rest of the world does the 3k so I get what you're saying.
Any distance spike that fits and feels decent. Really, the differences different varieties of spikes play is probably negligible.
adidas avanti
Adidas Avanti and New Balance 5000. You can steeple in these, too (drainage).
New Balance 800.
You may also try something new for 2014 - the adizero Ambition. Lighter and more flexible than Avanti, we look at this spike as a classic 800-1500 shoe, but our testers are also confident that it can work for the distance crowd as well. Less EVA under foot with a very simply lightweight upper should make you feel fast and light!

The Ambition is definitely another solid option. I recently raced a 2 mile in these and thought they worked well.
