Great run by the DIII national champ to show that she can mix it up with some of the best post-collegiates in the US. Its a great race for her to have after such a long NCAA season. Congrats.

So is she staying Division III or going D I?
leaving
I'm sure that is she is planning on moving to a DI school, this will solidify her abilities to many coaches. Not saying she hasn't proven herself previously, but this is against the type of competition she would face at DI, which was a knock against her before. People always say it is different when you have better comp.
According to NCAA rules, she will have to sit out one full year and cannot receive any scholarship. So, if she does transfer, she should do it now and be eligible for the 2004 track seasons.
Are you sure she has to sit out? Another d-3 runner going to d-1 program didn't have to.
no you dont have to sit out going from d2/3 to d1..but only if your coach releases you.
the only time you have to sit out a year is if you go from scholarship level to scholarship level...meaning only from d1/d2 to d2/d1... in d3, athletes would never have to sit out, whether they move up to d1 or down to d3
You all should read the NCAA Rulebook. You MUST sit out one full year and you cannot receive a scholarship. The reason for this is because Division III does not have the same initial eligibility rules as Division I. It keeps non-qualifiers from going to Division III and leaving after only one year instead of going to JUCO.
Guaranteed. If you transfer from Division III to Division I, you have to sit a year.
(e) If the student transfers to the certifying institution from a Division III member institution and meets the foregoing conditions, he or she may be eligible to compete but shall not receive athletically related financial aid during the first academic year in residence at the certifying institution.
She can transfer to Division I but cannot get a scholarship in the first year.
When is she transferring?
Where is she transferring?

She could get a scholarship, just not an athletically related one.
WHERE IS THE RUMOR THAT MISSY BUTTRY IS TRANSFERRING COMING FROM? I live in Iowa, I have posed the question to people here, and I have yet to hear one person say that Missy is transferring from Wartburg. The only place I've seen this rumor mentioned in on the letsrun.com boards.
usher you are gay...shut your mouth and go back to iowapreps.
My, that's an intelligent statement. Is this the Big Johnson at Dubya-tech? I would think that after a semester of being educated among the elite that you'd come up with a more thoughtful reply than "you are gay".
What did Missy run at D1?
I only have word of mouth info, but a former runner at my HS who runs for Wartburg mentioned that Buttry is thinking about going D1.
I may be wrong, but is Ms. Buttry the one who folks (on this board at least) were saying was racing while pregnant? If true, how might that affect the whole transferring thing? It seems that taking a year off might not sound so bad from her standpoint, although I'm not sure how coaches would look at it.
I am fully prepared to be told that was just a rumor, but it did get me wondering in light of the above posts.
The rumor was that Melissa Gulli of Texax A&M was pregnant, not Missy Buttry.
