I have gone with the lunarMTRL for my last two pairs of shoes and loved them, but since Nike discontinued them a while ago I need to move on. Any suggestions?

I was actually just looking at some $19 running shoes in Wal-Mart and wondering "hmmmm... I wonder how these would hold up..."
Can anyone talk me off the WalMart running shoe ledge?

Try it, come back and tell us how it went!

Definitely will if I end up trying them.
I would always get the Walmart shoes when I was a kid and they broke down so easily. A kid on our cross country team last year had a pair and they seemed to hold up alright, but I don't think he did much mileage.
So expensive though.
There is a lot of fixed pricing going on where your current year trainer by the Nike, and Brooks stays at the 110.00 pricepoint having to search for last year's edition at 70-80 is okay but then its not always reliable with sizing availability add this to running everyday higher mileage and it can be a bother.
It would be nice to just buck the system and be able to run in anything. I would just need a workhorse everyday trainer like Peg's. Thoughts on these:

go to an outlet and look for last year's models (or even this year's). if you're thinking of shelling out $80 as a compromise for skechers, you can probably find something in the nike outlet store for the same or cheaper. then again, skechers might actually be better. but keep looking.
