why does any comedian have to apologize for offending someone?
why does any comedian have to apologize for offending someone?
Top 10 comments on daily mail (a site which alot of letsrunners would say is liberal) say that its a bunch of political correct BS, so there is hope for the human race.
Regarding the joke, it wasnt even funny, i'd be more offended by the lameness of the joke.
You're pretty dense, huh?

Funny how almost every black comedian bashes whites as part of their act.
Meanwhile Steve has to apologize for very mild humor.

I equate this to Sergio saying he'd serve Tiger Woods fried chicken at a dinner. Very mildly racist but not worth the outrage it generated.

How is that RACIST? It is an observational joke. Black people eat a lot of fried chicken. Asian people eat a lot of fried chicken. Woods is 50% Asian, 12.5$ Black.
Fi-dollah make me hollah. Me luv you long time.

Saying someone will behave a certain way or like certain things based only on their race is RACIST. Stats don't matter, of course stereotypes are based in stats. But you have to get to know the person. If I see a white guy and say "Yeah, he has a small penis" that's racist even though the stats back me up.

Why does any comedian tweet jokes on Twitter? What does Steve Martin have to gain by being funny (or not funny) on Twitter? There's only downside.
I follow Steve Martin on Twitter. I did not see the original Tweet before he deleted but did see all the BS following it. There is some question as to what the original Tweet actually said. TMZ had to correct their original story as they quoted the wrong tweet.
The retweeted version that I saw was slightly different than what is in the article. The slight difference makes it funny IMO.
Someone asked 'Is this how you spell lasonia?' and Steve replied 'It depends, are you in an African-American neighborhood or at an Italian restaurant?'
You might be wondering why someone asked Steve that question. Something he does on Twitter is provide comical answers to English and grammar questions and that question was part of it.

Saying something based on race is stereotyping not racist. Racism is the belief that a race is superior or inferior and/or treating a particular race differently.
Steve's joke was more based on culture than race. Race doesn't determine what African Americans name their children, which is what the joke was referring to. That is culture.

except if you tell me I have a small penis, I'm not gonna threaten to sue your black as$ for 'hate speech', get Je$$ie Jack$on to boycot your company, and go on Oprah to cry about what a victim I am...
Typical black American is such a pus$y today..

LMAO, let's drop you off in Harlem and we will see who the pu$$y is.
And to the guy saying racist only means thinking one race is superior, wrong. Look it up.
My guess is you haven't been to Harlem recently. It's not what it used to be.
Steve's Martin's tweet was an offense to all comedians. He hasn't been funny for 30 yrs. Non story. Move along.

You sound delightful to be around.
Everyone needs to stop apologizing for everything and stop this PC nonsense.
So who exactly "forced" him to apologize?

OK, I looked it up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RacismYou obviously use the extreme definition that any observation between races is racism.
Black people have darker skin than white people. Is that racist?
African-Americans first came to America as slaves. Is that racist?
African American make up %73 of the NBA. Is that racist?

I thought it was hilarious. And accurate. Wanna bet there's a nascent baby mama contemplating naming her kid LaSonia, or LaZania?
Much ado about nothing. I thought it was a rather clever remark given the set-up question. Twitter responses are like backwards trolling. You really can't trust the sincerity of the outrage.
Steve overreacted to the feedback by deleting the post. A comedian never really knows if his stuff is going to be perceived as funny and can be a little sensitive. If the immediate feedback was that it wasn't funny I'm sure he didn't want it hanging out there for all to criticize.
Steve Martin and this funny comment (given the set-up) is not the face of racism today. There is nothing to see here. Quit paying attention to TMZ. Move along.
Shouldn't he also apologize to the Italians since they were included in the joke.
Remember Steve martin in "Bringing Down the House"?
