I've been looking at Adidas spikes for this upcoming Track season. Is there a difference between the cadence 2 and the Avanti 2? If so, what are they??

I think the Avanti is a more aggressive spike. so id say the cadence is better for longer distances while i think the avanti is better for shorter distance events

more midsole and less rigid spike plate in cadence. originally conceived as a good training spike for those athletes who don't want to be shredded after a session, it has also been suitable for a 10000 option
adidas product team:
the plate on the ambition looks very rigid/agressive. would you recommend this for an indoor 5k or is it too much. it's by far the lightest and cheapest option. i've heard criticism that the avanti and cadence are too built up with useless parts. the ambition looks very streamlined.

ambition plate is not rigid or aggressive at all. quite the opposite. go somewhere and try it on and see for yourself. and, yes, 5000 indoors would be fine but that is judgment call from you based on your spike history. good luck.
it looks like the plate tapers and extends longer down the sole than on most shoes. the nike victory, for example, has a plate that ends 40% down the sole from the toe, and i would consider the victory to have an upper limit of 5000m.
Ran two pairs of the Avanti and different Nike distance spikes... The Avanti doesn't feel aggressive to me at all. Very relaxed and comfortable. Great fit. I feel like you can lace them very well also... compared to Nikes. I am a Nike victim but if I wouldn't have to run in Nike for college I would go with the Avanti for sure. The Mamba and the Matumbo are loose and hard.
