This is for those considering buying a new Garmin Forerunner 220 for self or as a gift. Issues may extend to FR620, I don't know. If you disparage GPS devices in the first place, you needn't remind us again.
You are supposed to be able to automatically download data via your smartphone, but the Garmin Connect App is faulty and does not perform. The phone and watch pair, but no transfer occurs.
The fix offered by Garmin on the Garmin Forum is unpair the phone and watch, turn the watch off, turn the app off, turn the watch on, turn the app on, re-pair the two. It works, but just once. You have to do this again for every run. (Actually, didn't work for me on the second run, but that is what other users said. For me, it now does not work at all). You can still download data with a USB cord.
So if this is a feature you care about, maybe wait until the app is fixed. I'll be glad to report when that happens. Otherwise, the watch is great. Especially satellite lock in less than ten seconds.
It would be great if a Garmin representative would comment on this.
