Do they make mens running shorts without a liner? I'd like to run in shorts without a liner in the colder months so I can wear boxer briefs or compression shorts to act as a wind/cold buffer.

I considered cutting them out of mine and running in a jock strap.
My brother runs in Umbros.
just cut out the liner

As far as I know none of the regular running apparel companies make shorts for running anymore that don't have a liner because I've looked pretty hard. I'm talking about Nike, Saucony, Asics, Brooks, New Balance, Mizuno, etc. You can find soccer, basketball, or gym shorts without liners but they're cut wrong for running and/or the wrong material. The way the liner is sewn in makes it difficult to cut it out without either damaging the waistband seam of the shorts or leaving an irritating ridge of cut material where the liner was. Plus you pay extra for the lining so it's a waste to have to remove it. This is a recent development - a few years ago it was easy to find high-quality running shorts without liners.

Just wear your briefs or compression shorts under shorts with a liner. The liner won't make any difference.

This. I hate the fit of liners.
I usually cut out the liners in new running shorts before even wearing them. I wear Asics briefs so the fit is always the same regardless of which pair of running shorts I wear.
