So my marathon is around the corner...
I have run several marathons on my Adios 2's but within the last few months I picked up a pair of NB1400's and ran a 'fast' PR tune-up half a month ago.
I am comfortable with the Adios but the 1400's were great for the half.
Can anyone compare these two at the full distance?
Thanks.
These are my two go-to racers for half and full marathons.
I find the Adios to be a bit more snug, giving it a really responsive and aggressive feel without being a complete flat. I have raced a lot in the half and under in it, although in long (20mi+) runs (and the one marathon I did in them) I find my calves start to blow up a bit
I think the 1400 has a tiny bit more cushion and space in the toe box, making it feel a little less aggressive (I prefer the truly-a-flat NB 1600 over the 1400 in road 5ks and 10ks). I love the 1400 for long runs and the marathon, though, do tempos in it as well, and both my 13.1 and 26.2 PRs are in that shoe. As far as I know, the Canadian New Balance marathoners (Rob Watson, Reid Coolsaet, Eric Gillis) here use it, for whatever that's worth to you. (Although of course there's no shortage of fast guys in the Adios!)
Honestly, for neutral lightweight trainers/marathon racers, I don't think you can go wrong with these two shoes. If someone said I couldn't choose and they'd hand me the shoe on race day, I really wouldn't care!
