King of the self promoters. Refers to himself in the 3rd person to a level that is humorous.
76 times under 2:20, including 12 times in one year!

Sure... here's your self promotion at it's best:
But there was this one final sub-3:00 effort, more than 39 years after his first one in 1974. “I got really lucky today because my former training partner, Dave Chomet — we just happened to hook up, and I would not have run that fast if he hadn’t been there. He really pulled me along,” Kurtis told his Free Press colleagues.
Doug Kurtis has every right to self-promote.
Doug Kurtis IS the Orioles 3rd baseman of marathon running.
Good shout out to Dave Chomet.
Well now he is 200 ahead of me!!
You know it's time to quit when it takes 3 seconds just to get to the start!!
That's some seriously great running over 40 years and he can self promote all he wants. Seeing that he writes a running column, I bet he promotes others just as well.
Here is a good interview with him!
Good Ole Detroiter! Was steady with his traning for years and years. Odd Fellow!

He seems like a showboater.

This is TOO true. Nobody like him in the sport as a self promoter, somebody that does way too much to draw attention to himself & expect others to acknowledge his accomplishments. It's pathetic, juvenile & sad - this guy is 61 years old - going on 15. Yes, his resume of fine performances is lengthy - as has been his career. He ought to let his resume to do his talking for him rather than have him regularly go, 'Look at me, look at me.' His record in Olympic Trials Marathons is below average ... but not many know know or care about that.
Doug was irrelevant back in the 70's and 80's within the National Roads Scene. There was always a half dozen Michiganders that would kill Doug on the roads. Greg Meyer, Herb Lindsay, Stan Mavis, Rob Cool, Mark Messler and so on. Doug found his own little niche by ducking the big boys and dipping under 2:20 in the marathon so that people thought of him as a "big boy". He continues to struggle for recognition.
