I have a pair of the Kinvara TR2 right now, and they're pretty damn solid shoes. Is there anything better out there?

what are you looking for in a shoe? what types of trails? how's your footstrike?
I want a well rounded, light weight shoe with good traction. My foot strike seems to be mid foot. As for terrain, a little of everything. Mostly southern california trails, and mountains.
Are the NB Minimus any good?
If you are the real Matthew Berry, should I start Tony Romo or Mike Vick for week one?
I've always thought the Nike Zoom Streak XC3 and LT were great on trails (and a lot of what I run in Utah is pretty technical), although they're not all that durable.

Not as far as I'm concerned. Love the Kinvara TR.
IMHO, the NB MT110 is a phenomenal shoe. I haven't run in the Kinvara T2 so I can't weigh in on that part of the conversation although they appear similar.

only problem with those is if you have to run over big gravel or rocks your feet will be mega hurting. But if there aren't those obstacles, they are a great trail shoe.
The Merrell Trail Glove is pretty great. Took some getting used to, but I am on my second pair and I am loving them.
Nike Terra Kiger. I've been very impressed. I haven't had a trail specific shoe since going through multiple pairs of the original Brooks Cascadia, but have quickly become a big fan of the Terra Kigers.

+1
It's a great shoe and reasonably priced. My only complaint is that if you snag the upper on something substantial it can tear but this doesn't affect the structure of the shoe. Otherwise, for me it's the perfect trail shoe. They are apparently coming out with a major revision of it next spring (why?!), so I have already stocked up on a couple of pairs I found on sale.
I grabbed a few extra pairs of the black ones at the outlet the other day. I think I got 2 pairs for $90. I also grabbed some yellow 420s that day. I love the outlet.
I like these so much I wear them when I run in the city.

Inov8 has several shoes in its line that meet your criteria.
i have the merrell trail gloves too, but i think they dont have enough cushioning. my feet start to hurt pretty fast, despite being fairly used to low-cushioning shoes.
i've had them for a year and only put 60 miles on them because i cant do mroe than about 30 minutes at a time
i think the NBs are better

++1. Love my NB 110s. Best shoes I've had in 35 years of running.
I have the MT10, the MT10v2, the MT110s and MT 1010s. I love them all for different reasons. I love the flexibility of the 10s but in more technical trails, they don't have enough protection for longer runs and don't have great traction on wet trails. The 110s have awesome traction but lose some flexibility. They also throw the forefoot into mild pronation which I haven't felt with a shoe before. Took some getting used to. They offer great protection against rocks and roots but still lack some cushioning for longer runs. The 1010s have great cushioning, ample traction and transition well as a road shoe. Like the 110s though, not as flexible as the 10 and 10v2. I use them for longer runs and runs where I have some pavement to navigate, as well as trail...such as in running to the trail. The MT10s are. Also great shies to walk around in doing everyday things. My $.02.
Skechers GoBionic Trail is similar to the Kinvara TR2. 4 mm drop and flexible. Differences would be it's a little less cushioning and has a wider forefoot. Also, I'm certain it's lighter in weight.
