yes
the state brought him in on trumped up charges knowing full well they had insufficient evidence to prove anything and hoped to get a bullshit conviction on the race fueled mob mentality
it was reckless and thus the refund is appropriate
Doesn't hurt to ask.
Whatever he gets can go to Martin's family in a civil suit for wrongful death.
My man should insure himself if he's going to be playing vigilante security cop. The taxpayers of FL have no obligation to pay for this sort of action.
uhhh yes they do
theyre not paying for zimmerman's vigilantism, theyre paying for unfair charges against him by their elected officials
yea and I want $40,000 to cover what I owe on my Masters and Bachelor's degrees....when you choose something like going to school or stalking and killing an unarmed youngster, you have the face the consequences and pay for the outcome.
It actually makes sense. The state charged him with a crime that he was acquitted of. They cost him money and should be responsible. Not saying it's right, but from a legal standpoint, it should be on them.
He should get every penny and more. dude was totally harassed by the local, state, and federal government for doing NOTHING wrong.
He doesn't get any money. His lawyers get it.
he should consider himself lucky to have escaped w/o a conviction and move on w/o any cash. Stalking and killing an unarmed teenager should've cost him a lot more.
According to O'Mara the estimated cost of defending Zimmerman was 2 million. Asking for $200,000 when the charges were BS and only brought up to make some people happy isn't much.
Whether Zimmerman receives money from a defamation lawsuit or writing a book he'll never actually end up making money off of this case.
and that is the only good thing to come of that whole ordeal.
It was his choice not to use a public defender. Most of that 2 million is lawyer fees. Personally it looks to me that he way overpaided for that "expert testimony". If you need 4 or 5 experts, none of them is an expert. As far as BS charges, yeah OJ feels the same way.

According to the article their is a Florida law that allows him to file this motion to get reimbursed for expert witness, deposition, etc. fees. His lawyer expects he'll get less than what they are requesting. The attorneys are not entitle to payment from the state for any of their bills. None of this money is going to Zimmerman's pocket. It appears that almost none of the previous posters actually read the article to understand what is going on here.
I was under the impression that there had been sufficient money raised by racists across the country contributing to his legal defense. Did this not cover the cost of his lawyers? If not, then agreed that the state should cover the difference. If he did have enough raised to cover the lawyers expenses, then obviously he shouldn't be asking for more from the state.
Zimmerman should be in jail for a long time.
He sort of has an argument to make. The irony is that if he was going to make common cause with other people in Florida to lobby for him, it would probably be black people who could most relate to his predicament.

Other than OJ what other black man has had a high profile criminal defense team? Public defenders all the way bro.

Innocent men don't go to jail.
He killed an unarmed person and got away. Asking for money on top of that is just greedy.
