The NSA collects millions of texts, calls, emails, etc. Millions. Maybe billions over a whole year. The fact that there were less than 3,000 violations is actually quite astounding, given how complex world wide communications is in the 21st century. Almost all of these violations were accidental or cause by technical error. You need to read past the headlines into the back pages of the articles to learn that, however.
No one has produced a shred of evidence that NSA has deliberately targeted American citizens in an unlawful way. The examples people cite are mistakes, not deliberate lawbreaking. There have been a few NSA employees who have deliberately misused the data, and when caught they are dealt with legally.
I know these people at NSA. They are good, dedicated people trying to do the right thing by their country.
When all is said and done, most Americans are going to be shocked at outraged over what Snowden actually has done. He is lying through his teeth.
