After trying any number of other things to help with some achilles bursitis, I'm considering cutting the heel counter out of my shoes to see if that helps. What is the best way to go about that? Do I just cut along the top of the back of the shoe, essentially where the shoe would meet the achilles, then reach in and pull the heel counter out? Maybe it varies from shoe model to shoe model, but is the heel counter attached to anything towards the base of the shoe, or can it just be pulled out with say a pair of pliers once it is accessible? If it's attached, how do you get it out? Seems like if you had to cut it out then you'd basically destroy your shoes in the process and not be able to sew them back together. I'm gonna practice with some old shoes first but any tips on the best way to go would be appreciated.
