I've been running for four years and was injury-free until a few months back. I picked up a calf injury after a long run which made it painful to walk, never mind run for about a month. I saw two PTs who both said it was most likely caused by overpronating due to being bowlegged and having fairly flat, inflexible feet. They stressed that it is very likely to reoccur and that I should get custom-made orthotics if I still hope to be running in 10 years time.
The injury resolved itself completely after a month and I've had no problems since. My shoes are pretty worn-out now so I'm going to change them soon, however, I'm not convinced that paying all that money for custom-made orthotics is necessary at this stage? Should I try some over the counter ones instead or just opt for a more supportive shoe and see how that goes?
