WR attempt?
WR attempt?
Given their recent crash and burn performances, I would just like to see a solid race instead of a WR attempt. Neither of them has run a really fast marathon since they broke 2:04.

I guess a bronze medal at the olympics and near course record in London by Kipsang didn't impress you. 2:04:44 is slow?
desiree davila is running berlin marathon. just hope she doesn't lose to irina.

Seriously.
Roy, categorically has got you here. When did a 2:04:44 by a 2:03:42 guy become a "crash and burn" performance?
Also, how can they just announce this now?
Berlin has been sold out for weeks!
I just hope for a good race. I hope those guys don't repeat London this year.

things have changed since they started testing in Kenya
berlin marathon 2013 officially means paula radcliffe retires for 2 years that 24 months of no racing. paula broke no money.
I'm so sick and tired of paula old old races back in berloin sept 2011 and thats the latest. My last race was coaster run march 2013.
berlin marathon 2011 was so long ago. i cant even remember it. its in the past. berlin marathon 2012 is recent.
I brought up paula because she ran berlin marathon 2011 a long long time ago. 2003 wr was fake its old 10 yrs old.
I'll never be done with paula because she don't retire but she already retire since berlin 2011. the question is did paula retire without running anything!!!!!
paula need to stop wasting our time and retire she don't run anything. I"m done peace out!
Makau's mission is not to attempt the WR or even win in Berlin. His sole mission is to spoil for Kipsang whom he fears could break his record. After he broke the world record in 2011, his shape has drastically gone down. On the other hand Kipsang and Geoffrey Mutai are still on top of the list of those likely to break his record. Last year he(Makau)wanted to run Berlin to spoil for Mutai. Unfortunately the organizers did not let him in.
Makau needs to shape up and understand WRs are there to be broken and if he doesn't want anyone to break it, he needs to improve on the time instead of messing others up. Still what happened in 2011, where Haile was in the race, may happen again, meaning the record could go even with Makau racing. I hope that happens.

Interesting.
But how can Makau ruin Kipsang's attempt?
Kipsang knows he has WR ability, and has shown that he isn't afraid to attack alone (London Marathon, also 2012 Olympics).
there won't be any more marathon records since the the doping clampdown
whats the betting the times drop this year?
Makau's done, drinking too much I heard.
He'll still run 2:10 or so but no more 2:04/2:05s
Makau seemed a nice guy and a Christian. I don't think he is the type that would be said to be drinking too much let alone drink. My guess is that he became complacent and lazy after he broke the world record in 2011. Since then, his performance has gradually gone down. A DNF in London 2012, a 2:06 in Frankfurt(same race where Kipsang ran 2:03:42) in fall of 2012, a 65 half marathon in March 2013 and the a 2:11 in London 2013. That is not a good sign for him. I think Kipsang will handle both (Makau as well as world record attempt).

Nothing in the first sentence supports the second one.
I hope he's not drinking, and would love to see him race well.
