David Torrence ran 3:34.19 (PR) in the same meet. I think that makes him the only American with the "A" standard.
Is that a PR for him?

That's fantastic. Breaks his old pr 3:34.25 ever so slightly but it was 3 years old. Hopefully this is a breakthrough year for him. He's 27 so he could still be a good one for us on the world stage (not suggesting he can medal ever) if he can get a bit lower. He has good 800 speed too, if he can break his 1:45.14 from 2010 as well we'll know he's ready to roll.
Rupp has it also.
Manzano one second behind Mulder. Not bad at all.
Mens 800m

That's a smart move on Manzano's part, aka running a solid 800 prior to attempting the 1500 A standard.
how is anybody impressed with this?
1:46 means he will get his socks blown off him in moscow.
Leo will likely get the "A" this weekend in Paris. It's a good plan before Moscow. Runs a couple of 1500 meets to take the pressure off and tune up.
Its a shakeout race to prepare to the upcoming 1500 in Paris.
1:46 shows he has established a running rhythm after the travel.
But it looks like the 1500 here may have been a good idea seeing that Torrence popped a good time right away and they are training partners.
A couple of Nancy boys.
Seems pretty good for Manzano (PR 1:44.56 in 2010) in early July. It's two seconds faster than he ran in New York in May, half a second faster than he ran before the Olympics last July, and he finished just .15 seconds behind the quick-closing Sowinski.
Not terribly impressive for a miler.
El G and Lagat ran 1:46 flat over the last two laps of the '04 Olympic 1500.
Just sayin.
Sowinski was raced in Canada on Saturday. Talk about jet-lag.

There's a difference between running an 800m early July and running a 1500m in peak shape at the Olympics. 1:46 is a decent result and shows Manzano is in fine form.
They didn't split 1:46 flat, they split 1:46.8 for last 800m. Check any of the dozen replays on youtube and you'll see.
And that was--and still is--the fastest closing 800 in a 1500 ever run. It's not like this is done every month or every year.
Perhaps we should schedule a special 800 for all of the posters who have decided that 1:46.28 isn't good enough for them. It's almost an IAAF B qualifier for 800.
FWIW - Lagat's 800m PR is 1:46.00.
I would say its below average for a 1500m runner of his level

I know for a fact Leo ran 1:47.XX in Austin 10 days before the 2012 Olympic trials as one of the local training groups provided 400m / 600m pacers to go through the first 400m at 53.5s. It wasn't a meet, it was just another Leo workout in the overall build-up for the trails/Olympics. The rest is history: Winning the Olympic trials and then getting the silver medal at London. Some of the other posters have this exactly right that Leo is just getting his rhythm down before attempting the 1500m "A" standard. Leo is very systematic about his races and is extremely well coached by Ryan Ponsonby and John Cook. Just watch and see these next few weeks...............
