I received a new timex. Mine was on its last legs. It was a nice gift, but I've always preferred more sentimental things from my team--I don't need them to go all materialistic on me.
What did you all receive?

An undefeated state championship season.
The best gift is always a card from a kid that simply says thanks for making a positive difference in their life.
The next best is a book made from pictures taken by parents and kids at various activities throughout the season.
Every so often I'll get a gift reflecting something I said in passing that I liked during the season. It's not so much the thing itself, but that a kid was listening and wanted to do something nice.
I'm absolutely with you; though, I never thought about in it those terms - I far prefer the sentimental things over material things.
Me too. I'm not into jewelry or things unless they are sentimental. And I like activity gifts. Stuff you can do together.
I like passed down things too. Like if the watch had sentimental value, i would love it as a gift. Probably wear it often even if it couldn't tell time anymore.
My very first cross country team in 1979 got me a Casio watch which was just when they were first hitting the running scene - i still keep it on my book shelf. One year my team got so tired of seeing me riding around on my 20 year old Trek that they bought me a really nice new bike - it's been about 13 years and i am still cruising around on that one. Also have a big box filled with cards and notes from kids and parents, just saying thanks etc. Gotta hang on to those for sure.
They ordered a pair of Nike custom spikes in the school's colors. The whole team signed both pairs and gave one to me and one to the assistant coach.
Ordered a GAUDY "coaching jacket" and signed the back. Did that because a rival coach wore one all the time and they thought it was funny. They felt I should have one too. Ugliest item of clothing that I've ever grown attached too.
The first gift I got was this in a frame. 8 years ago and it's still on my desk.

I love the book of pictures that the seniors took throughout the season. Gift certificates to a fancy spa for me, golf for the male coach. I really don't need gifts, I just love the heartfelt thank yous that come in from the athletes and parents.
Framed, signed picture of the team was probably the best.
Most useful was 75 bucks to wegmans.
Gear for kids' college destinations is nice, too.

I just received a Willow Tree Hand Painted Memory Box. One of the best sentimental gifts to preserve your memories It'll always remind you that your friend is always there to support and love you whatever the situation is. It was a nice gift. I've always preferred sentimental things.

Blah blah blah..
you coaches suk! How about getting a real job, slackers?
The only thing you should be gifted is a pink slip. 🖕
We have real jobs. Do you really think we live on stipends?
We got a new track a few years ago, so the boys grabbed one of the old lane numbers and put it in a large frame that they built, signed by everyone, and a small plaque that reads "Downhill, on the way back, with the wind"
