Here is what you do: Set your treadmill to its maximum speed (in my case 12mph) let it run for a good 90 minutes without you actually running on it, snap a picture of the display (saying you ran 18 miles in 90 minutes), then send it to them. That should shut your friends up.
Put the Garmin on your car's dashboard and drive for 2 hours at 12 mph (5 mins/mile).
