Yes, I like to do that. If the Kinvara is your lighter/lower drop shoe and you want something more substantial maybe try the Saucony Ride. An 8mm drop and more substance without much more weight.
I like the Saucony Guide and rotate it with either the Mirage or Asics DS-Trainer. I may also throw a trail shoe or road flat in the mix depending on what kind of training I'm doing.
My rationale:
- Gives shoes a chance to dry between runs (I hate the feeling of putting on a wet pair of shoes)
- Gives shoes midsole a chance to recover from compression (I read somewhere they take 30+ hours to decompress)
- Prevents feet from getting accustomed to only 1 shoe that could result in injury or soreness once those are trashed and on to the next pair
- Good way to transition from shoes on their last life to new ones without a dramatic shift
