Okay, I've heard you on here before. I agree. I would love for purely sentimental reason to have a pair of the red or blue ones in a size 12 (oh, what the invention of a functional time machine would do). But alas, no such luck. Well, I did find something close for you. I was cleaning out some closets and I found a copy of an old (1973) Runner's World Booklet of the month titled "Shoes For Runners". I don't have a scanner, but I'll copy verbatim for you the description of the Tiger Marathon. "Shoe: Tiger Marathon (Model No. G-9) Price: $14.95 (suggested retail, mid 1973) Sizes: 3-13, one standrad width per size. Use: Primarily racing, but a significant number also train in it, according to our survey. Weight: 7 1/4 ounces (one shoe size 9). Sole: White rubber ridged outer sole, full length midsole, sole thinset at arch. Upper: nylon, blue with white trim, suede reinforced toe and heel. Arch: none. Appraisal: Tiger's marathon is so far ahead of the competition that it can coast on its reputation. One runner in three races in the shoe which is perhaps badly named. Those who use it find it's more satisfactorily for cross country and for short road racing than for full length marathon. The pounding there is sometimes too much for this next-to-nothing shoe (no arch support, no insole, cutaway 'collapsible' sole) to handle. US Distrubtors: Pete Buckley & Co. .... Curley-Bates Co. .... George Davis Inc. .... Demco .... Olympic Sports .... Universal Resilite.
SOMEBODY KNOWS!!!!
May you be blessed with peace and happiness unto 7 generations in your family.
THAT'S the shoe.
Check out these ...
Link doesn't work. I tried it in google and the Zappo screen that pops up say check with their system administrator.

You got it, buddy! We're bringing it back.
Will it still be < $15?
Try Zappos.com and search for "Onitsuka"
ok
merci
I heard that, murph.
Hey, no problem. Glad I could help. This book is great. It brought back great memories. As long as your petitioning Asics, see if you can convince them of bringing back their entire line from 1973. I'd love to sport a pair of Bangkok's (blue suede), Boston's (same upper as the marathon but "the flat bottom offers far superior cushioning properties"), and Tahoe's as well as a pair of the Marathon's.
Hey, can you photocopy that booklet?
It sounds interesting from a historical perspective.
The 'white rubber' and no EVA or fancy chemical-based insoles might account for their feel & that answers a quetsion of mine: what was the sole made of?
I truly wonder WHY Tiger/ASICS does not bring them back?
It cannot cost THAT much to produce them.
Nike had the Air Mariah flat, which was not bad at all, then discontinued them.
Curses.
Asics produces many similar flats that simply aren't available in US stores. Best you can probably do is find someone who travels between the US and Japan rather frequently to get them for you or get some start-up scratch and become an e-tailer importer (import the stuff and sell it via an online/eBay store).

Drop me an email, with your mailing address and I'll send you a copy of select pages. It's 78 page booklet: Ch. 1 = "The Choices" (pp. 4-14); Ch. 2 = "The Flats" (pp.18-45) Adidas, E.B. Sport Lydiard, New Balance, Nike, Puma, Road King, Tiger; Ch. 3 = "The Spikes" (pp.46-65) Adidas, Puma, Tiger; Ch. 4 = "The Feet" (pp.66-77).
Excellent. Thank you.
Zappos is pretty good, I ordered a pair of Asics GT-II, my favourite training shoe ever, and I have worn them again a few times, pure bliss. In fact, it ends up being cheaper than buying new model shoes. I paid $92 Canadian for the GT-II and bought a Pair of Landreth locally for $145.00CDN

Dunno, but I think it was pretty heavy stuff. Seemed like nearly all of the weight of that shoe was in that sole. If I recall correctly, it also had a wafer thin "midsole" that consisted of a low-density blue material.
I ran a lot of x-c races in them (blue, white stripes) and also used them for training occasionally. I'd like to see ASICS introduce nearly the same shoe, but with a very thin Phylon-type midsole and an outsole of material lighter than the old white rubber but equally durable. I think that would be be perfect shoe.
boy i would love to try on some of those...
