I like to have an idea of pace I'm running for my runs but threads lately have me rethinking how accurate these courses I'm running actually are. I recently purchased a Garmin Forerunner 405 and measured a course that I've always known to be a little short. It was a 6 mile course, that my Garmin measured out to 5.66 miles. I knew it was short but I didn't think nearing a half mile short.
After some reading today a lot of people seem to distrust GPS watches or satellite measurement websites for determining true distance. Are these devices at all reliable for a true measurement if you're trying to calculate mile pace, or simply "good enough" to figure out an approximate run?
