Someone had to do it. So last night, Lochte tells Flotrack he would be a 100-meter dash guy. Now let's ponder what his time would be. I say anywhere from 12.5 to 12.7.

While swimming speed is not highly correlated with running speed, they are in good shape with low body fat and much more athletic than just the average 20-something year old male. So I'd expect above average but not super impressive - so probably in the 12.0-12.5 range.
i would imagine something like 12.5 to 14 only bc mo only ran 12.9:
13.xx
13.low sounds about right, but the start is a big deal in the 100 and Lochte does have a vast amount of training reacting to a gun. Neither he or Phelps has a sprinter's a s s though, so not breaking 15 isn't far fetched.
I'd put 50/50 odds on a hammy pull. Muscle stresses in swimming a vastly different than the explosive stress of the first 20 of a hard 100.
I read in Phelps biography that his coach doesn't have him run because of his huge feet and lack of coordination. Lochte could be in the same boat, so not breaking isn't a stretch at all.

"not breaking 15 isn't far fetched" - c'mon, pro athlete, low body fat, lightning fast reaction time and you think not breaking 15 is even possible? Most 12-year old boys can break 15. Absolutely zero chance Lochte doesn't break 15 (or even 14) unless he trips or something. And he probably breaks 13 comfortably.

Agreed.
Swim training transfers to explosiveness a lot more than distance running does. He's driving off of the wall with his legs several hundred times a day on his turns. Based on my own experience as an ex-collegiate runner who has since transitioned to swimming most days, I can tell you that my vertical is several inches higher now than it was when I was running, even though I did weights several times a week in college and never do them now. I'd say that my speed is similar to what it used to be as well.
I'm calling 12.XX for Lochte.
I'm going with low upper 12s to low 13s. Professional women are running upper 10s to low 11s pretty regularly, and I doubt he'd be within a second of a professional woman sprinter.
sub-14 at best
12.5 seems safe.
I ran 12.5 when I was 14 and a distance runner just starting out and I was 5'9".
Lochte is 6'2" and in very good shape, so 12.5 seems obvious, if he worked on his start and knee lift he could do 11.5.
Ive said this on here in the past, my best friend in high school had a brother who won Olympic bronze in swimming at Athens while we were both still in high school. First, it's crazy how tall a lot of the top level swimmers are (not very relevant to this conversation). Secondly many of them are very far from athletic outside of pool. Including my friends brother. He was incredibly awkward. Like he hadn't grown into his body. He had just graduated college when he won bronze. Personally I think people give swimmers way too much credit for all around athleticism. Its very very specific. Several of my friends who swam in college and two who were national champions can't run like normal people. Their swimming motions are so conditioned that their leg movement makes abnormal swing and inward turn.
Obviously this is a small sample but all were at the top of their given level. I don't know how fast they could run a 100 but I don't doubt it would be much slower than your typical "average" all around athlete.

The bigger question is...can Phelps break 80 in golf?
As for Lochte, he should be able to break 15. After all, my 12 year old daughter can run 17 with no training.

My twelve year old daughter did a 360 tomahawk dunk on a ten-foot basket with no training.

My twelve year old daughter did a quadruple backflip 1440 tomahawk dunk on a twelve-foot basket with no training.
I predict that he would run in the wrong direction.
You know, that Lochte guy gets a lot of flack , but he seems like an overall nice guy.

I agree- he'd be a decent girl to have on your 4x100 team.
