Anyone else see this guy on ESPN?
What kind of nut job is he?
I played h.s. basketball for 2 years, then ran track in college. I've never seen or heard of any coach, at any level, do stuff like that.
What a douchebag.

He kind of looks like a pederast.
He needs to fired ASAP, no excuses.
Sounds like Patches O'Houlihan from Dodge Ball.
Not making excuses for the coach but did anyone tell him to knock it off?
I mean if not one player told anybody --like the AD-- then they got what they deserved for being that incredibly passive in the wake of pathological behavior.

The AD was aware of it last summer, then did nothing about it.
In December he suspended Rice for 3 games, for "unspecified" violations of the code of conduct.
The players don't have much recourse - they have scholarships over their heads, and if they speak up, they can have their scholarship yanked (and if they wanted to transfer, they'd have to sit out a year.) The deck is really stacked against college players, which is why you get this sort of stuff in college (see: Bobby Knight) that you would never see in the pros.
what a joke. I understand being physical as a coach to an extent and I can see where he could make an argument for SOME of that staff, but beaming guys in the back of the head with a basketball or coming behind them and just shoving them out of the blue or kicking them. Not sure what there is to review, guy needs to be fired yesterday. Lots of college athletes take abuse in all sports to keep their scholarships, this stuff is not limited to basketball and not limited to physical abuse.
Kevin Bannon's naked free throws. Fred Hill getting into a fight at an RU baseball game. Dahntay Jones and Mike Rosario transfer out and go deep into the tournament with their new teams. The bad press hemorrhage over the years has made Rutgers basketball a joke. This is just another dash of gas on the fire.
He needs to be fired. Absolutely inexcusable. Even if never warned (he was, given a prior suspension), this is termination. If the AD new about all the footage, and only suspended him for 3 games, he should be fired. No question. I heard tonight that Governor Christie is now involved, so they are out.
At this point, Rutgers couldn't recruit anyone decent with Rice as he coach. Yeah, he's got to go.
Crap like this is what makes that commercial the NCAA is running during the tourney even more of a joke, "think of us as a pep squad....think of us as a mascot...." better yet, think of as pimps! The NCAA, what a joke.
Have to blame the AD and Rutgers in general for this. They have a history of this stuff. You think they'd be a little careful when selecting coaches. Problem is, there is more of this going on then most of you realize.
The world has become so pussified. Nothing wrong with an aul clip round the ear.

Yes there is, you are teaching violence as an acceptable form of coaching, which it is not.
I was a student during the Fred Hill Jr. era, who was the coach previous to Rice. He was pretty much hated and reviled because he was supposed to be a top recruiter and could never get any local talent. The region is a hotbed for talent too.
He was terminated based on arguing a close call...at first base during a Rutgers baseball game. The school paper then declared the player who was called out at first the athlete of the year. Jokingly of course.
I honestly hope both dopes, Rice and Pernetti get the axe. Totally unacceptable.
ESPN is reporting that he has been called into a meeting this morning by his "superiors" and will be fired. My point above is, the President needs to call both Rice and the AD into a meeting, and fire both. This is beyond absurd, and the AD needs to be held accountable for letting it blow over as a "fist offense" 3-game suspension. First offense? He said he saw even more footage than aired on OTL. To use an extreme analogy, it would be like calling a serial rapist or killer a "first offender" when you catch him once, yet have video footage of all the other acts recovered from his basement. The AD's treatment of the situation is terminable, per se.
ESPN just reported that Rice has been fired. The AD said he was wrong to have treated it that way initially, and has fired Rice. Question is: what about the AD?
Well, I'm sure he was fired because he wasn't winning as much as his insanity.
The AD needs to be fired as well for showing such incredibly poor judgement.
