replace true with...SOLINSKY
Oh snap. Would love to see Solinsky back in the mix.
Agree on Rupp and Derrick. Third is the wild card spot right now because there are a number of guys who could step up and get it.
Just a couple of years ago, most of us would say two guys were probably certain and the third spot was uncertain because there was a huge drop off.
I like this current "problem" a lot more.
Rupp
Derrick
Ritzenhein
True seems to be coming into really good form, but I can't see him beating Ritz right now. This is the longest stretch where Dathan has been healthy in how long?
Granted True is pretty new to running as well, so who knows where his curve will land.
I would also love to see Solinsky back in it, but I don't see it happening this year.
Are we certain that Rupp is going to double again? Because I could see Derrick going for the 5K instead if that is the case.
I can't see why rip wouldn't double
And I think it'd be cool if Derrick did too

If Rupp doubles then there are Rupp, Lomong and Lagat in the 5000. Difficult to see Derrick making that team.
10k: Rupp, Ritz, Teg/Derrick
5k: Rupp, Lagat, Lomong
Not expecting any upsets
Rupp
Derrick
Ritz
True ran a good XC race but has never proven himself to be as good on the track. Ritz seems confident that he can go sub 27 and ran well at the NYC half. If he is in sub 27 shape at the trials there is no way he gets left off. Teg is mentally out of it.
I think Derrick is a good 5k runner but I think at that level the 10k will suit him better. I dont think he will have the speed for the 5k at this level.
I like your picks. Sub 27 is not a gurantee for Rtiz but if he is in PR shape he should make the team. He is a little ahead of where he was last year and he doesn't have to chase the standard.
I'm hoping for 3 in the top 10, I think, whether it's Rupp, Rtiz, Teg (has had poor showings in both 10K finals), True, or Derrick.

Derick will double.
I think most people are just giving the second spot to Derrick. After Rupp this race is still wide open.
Favorites:
Teg and Ritz: proven veterans know how to make world teams.
Derrick: rising star but still young and never made a track USA team.
Sleepers:
Mead: incredible talent that could break out under new system.
Chelanga: (American? Switch to road racing?) Still an incredible talent that hasn't improved much since college. Might be due for a breakout season.
Solinsky: If anyone comes back from an injury to make team, it is Solinsky. Still 2nd fastest american ever.

No chance, none, nada, zippo. Absolutely no chance either Teg or Ritz is keeping Derrick off the team.
Stop living in the past!
Solinsky has already said that Moscow is not in the cards for him. He doesn't have the standard and currently is not fit enough to chase it. 2014 is what he's looking at to get back to previous form.

Teg
Teg has never missed qualifying for a U.S. roster since he turned pro out of Wisconsin, I believe. He'll get healthy and edge Ritz over the final 600m to make the team again. Ritz will do a fall marathon and PR again. True is running great, and with a chip on his shoulder after some bad luck leading up to the Olympic Trials last summer, but he'll narrowly miss qualifying. It's nice to have some major talent and depth at the 10k this year.
