its not the degree its the career. many govt jobs have decent pensions as of today. the accounting firms are still offering solid pensions. its something like 25% of the partner's ending salary per year for the rest of their life. the average partner is making ~$600,000 and presumably the older partners are making more. you're looking at something like $200,000/year for doing nothing not to mention the millions you'll have in a retirement account at that time as well. but of course to make it that far you have to be really good at what you do
