Very generalized, of course.
Very generalized, of course.
Why waste time with GE classes at a California Community College?
A Java Certificate or Embedded Certificate from UC Santa Cruz Extension will get you a high paying job.
I makes sense that spending a smaller amount of time studying for specific skills usually gets more pay in the beginning.
Many people graduate 4 year programs with vey general knowledge that isn't translated quickly into pay.
But those people usually have a bigger growth path and make more in the long run.
And there is peronal value in the 4 year experience.
Strictly from a numbers view of cost-benefit, 4 year degrees aren't often that great.
But if you did everything by the numbers, you would never go on vacation or have a nice meal because it would look like a wasted expense.
The article says that Georgetown has found that nearly 30% of people with associates degrees earn more than those with bachelor degrees. "Other research" has shown that they may earn more. The article also states that "while by mid-career, many bachelor's degree recipients have caught up in earnings to community college grads."
Okay, I'm done nitpicking, but o be honest, is anyone really surprised by this? Like another poster said, if you get a technical degree from a two year school, you are going to be making a decent living right out of the gates, but with little room for advancement. If you graduate with a four year degree you may be making less money initially but you could become a doctor/lawyer/professor, or just ladder climb in a company in a way you couldn't with a 2 year degree. Two year degrees are obviously a good choice for a lot of people, but four year degrees are a good choice for other people. There is no one size fits all education answer.
"Nearly 30%" is hardly enough to suggest a 4-year degree is less valuable.
It does show that community college is a viable option.
Whereas no college puts you in a bad spot in most cases.
Agreed.
