Any running shorts out there with a zippered back pocket than can fit a 4.25" cell phone?

Buy a flipbelt instead. Don't get tied to wearing the same pair of shorts every day.
Good luck finding any that will fit one that big, I work in specialty run and haven't seen one that would work. Go to your local specialty run store and try out the belts that would work for you. Spibelt, Nathan, Amphipod, etc...
Race Ready has shorts with an elastic band on top that will hold your phone.
Just keyster it.
No need to take your phone with you on runs. Consider it the hour per day when people can't get hold of you. Not only do you not have to carry your phone this way, but you can actually enjoy your run instead of continuing to be tied to a device and other people.
Calebb: there are mom's (and dad's) out there that need to be available in case of emergencies with their kids.
If it is that big a deal to have the phone with you, just put it into a Ziploc type sandwich bag (to protect from sweat and/or rain) and carry it in your hand.
The other alternative is to wear an armband like my wife does.
I guess a third option is to get a tiny phone and swap the sim card and run with the small phone.
I like to duct tape my cell phone to my shorts when I run (mostly for safety reasons).
My phone is smaller than that, so it might not work as well for a 4.25" phone.

Good lord. What did parents ever do before cell phones? WTF do you think is going to happen in ONE HOUR AWAY that requires an immediate response?
When I was a kid (I'm 40) we actually WENT ALL DAY without talking to our parents. Somehow...just somehow...we survived.

They have velcro strips at the hardware store. All you need to do is stick the rough part in your butt crack, and the smooth part on the phone and you are good to go.
You may need to switch to motion control shoes, but it's a small price to pay for important people like you to be accessible 24/7.
Subject line made me think of a little 4.25" cell phone character wearing running shorts. Need more coffee...

This is the 'everybody is a winner' generation. Things are different.

My parents both went running pretty frequently when I was a kid. There were no cell phones then. And guess what? Here I am, ALIVE!
You don't have to be in constant contact all the time. If something happens to your kid while you're out for a run, you still have to run home to deal with the problem, so you might as well wait to check your phone until you get back.
If you're that worried about it, don't go running. And make sure that you don't let your kids set foot outside, because SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN TO THEM!
The Ken doll shorts will fit as long as you get the ones with the elastic waist band.

I've never heard it referred to as a cell phone. The inner liner should keep it wrapped up though regardless of the inseam
There are other reasons to run with a phone. For example, my company has an employee wellness plan. In order to document your runs you need a GPS of some sort. I could just go buy a Garmin, but I already have a phone that I loaded with the mapmyrun app. Saves me like $8 a month on my health insurance, plus other bonuses.

I just tape mine to my Dick and put it on vibrate. Never know when I'll need a "Chubby."
Wear a spibelt-

I could say stuff about Camelbacks, arm sleeves, etc., but seriously, if you have to carry your phone for some reason this seems like the best solution. Just wear a long shirt to hide your shame. :)
I also probably should have mentioned that I have a few pairs of adidas shorts with a zippered back pocket large enough for the phone. Not sure what they're called, I'll try to look when I get home, but they're 4-5 years old.
