I only run on the roads once evry couple of weeks but when I do I rock the oringinal LRs. I love that shoe..but 99.9 percent of my runs are done in the mountains.
I still do 90% of my miles in the Lunaracer. Just ordered another pair and intend to try the new version due out this month. I do wish they'd make a "trail" version with a waffle outsole.
how many miles does everyone typically get out of a pair of lunar racers?
I train all of my miles in Lunar Racers. You'll get a ton of miles out of them. None of this replacing after 300 miles stuff. The limiting factor on when you replace them is when the upper starts to get stretched out because then your foot becomes unstable. The sole outlasts the rest of the shoe.
I use them once in a while. I find the Lunar Montreals are pretty close. They seem like they are flimsy but seem to work once you have them on. Pretty good on the treadmill but like another poster; would like to see a trail version.
I swap between the LR for most runs and the Free 3.0 for easy stuff. Unlike the guy above, I do limit the mileage on the shoe. When it gets close to 400 I use it for a trail only/ rainy day shoe before I toss it at 500. I would rather be safe and avoid injury and at about $70 close-outs are cheap. I have a small foot but still found the Monteral to be tight putting on and never wore it to run. I also mileage-out Zoom Streak XC (or whatever it's now called, LT?) that I road race in and put them on the trails.
LR works well for me. I did like the first series best. I know they say they went back after the LR2 but for some reason I can't get the same feel.
Thats because Nike changed the foam after version one and didn't tell anybody, it was lunarlite in the early versions but changed to lunarlon midway through the life of LR1, a heavier less bouncey, less responsive material.... its stayed lunarlon ever since. What a con.
Is there a noticeable difference among the versions. I really liked the 2 but I'm having trouble finding it anywhere in size 12. Is the 3 out yet? Thanks
Version 3 should be available now. I never thought that the Montreals felt quite as well cushioned as the original LunarRacer, although the upper is superior.
My 4th pair of LunarSpeed Lites should arrive today. They are listed as a marathon racing shoe, but they are a fantastic lightweight trainer. My only issue so far has been durability on the toe off area on the sole.
The great thing is that the LunarSpeed Lites are really inexpensive right now because they are coming out with a new color and update. They originally retailed at $110 and I got my most recent pair for $59.99.
Thanks for the info. I probably should have asked about weekly mileage too. Recently saw a video with Simon Whitfield and read an interview I which it seems that he indicates he does all of his running in what appears to be LRs. Though I have see one more recent video in which he is wearing Free Runs. I was a big fan of the old Free 5.0s for workouts and easy runs, and am considering a switch back to something very similar. Maybe a combo of both is where it's at.
I ran probably 3,000 miles in a half-dozen pairs of lunaracer 2's. There simply is no replacement. I've been having a pretty good time with the Brooks Green Silence though. Definitely not as soft, but a good feel for the road.

I've been getting 700+ out of the Lunaracers. I just started running in them 2 years ago, had 1 pair of the LR 2 and have gone through multiple pairs of the reincarnation of LR 1, which I thought were LR 3's until reading the new version will be considered the LR 3.
I love them, just need to a version with a waffle sole for trails.
