Unbelieveable!
Will states like Ohio find a way to kill both NXN and Footlocker?

wow that sucks
How did they get that interpretation from that rule?
They are not "representing the school" and the rule prohibits receiving travel etc.
This has been a long time coming.
It will last until football teams, basketball teams and all-star players are invited to play in a nationally televised game. There is no way that will remain the interpretation.
This lies at the heart of my beef with HS athletics. State organizations cater to the needs and particulars of sports like football and then apply rules across the board. If HS Football coaches could practice all summer long, then they would kill students, I get that. But when I get my runners after not being allowed to supervise them all summer, they have overuse injuries--I need to be present to restrain them. Futhermore, the sanctioning of independent schools competing against public is moronic in some states. I can't run my private school kids (from VA) in the Great American meet but private schools from NC or PA can? retarded.
These travel restrictions is yet another example of the gov't acting without warrant or knowledge. I don't even know how the state can control the activities of a private club...let's see what John Roberts has to say about this.

I believe this ruling would make ineligible all those kids who compete for AAU basketball programs and travel. I think they usually get their travel paid for by the tournaments.

If you are in Virginia than you can hold and supervise practice for your kids.
This is horrible. I don't understand one rational reason for this.
Ohio is the state that eventually went to W Bush to let him have a second term. So, this is not the first politically stupid thing they've done.
I see a lawsuit- the state can't tell some kid who he/she can get money from. This is out of season and they are not representing their school.
Each state association and the NFHS have created poorly writen rules that give them something to work on, thus job security.
Most rules that matter are not enforced, and those that have no bearing on the out come of competition are the ones they spend the most time on. (i.e. jewelry and uniform issues)
Ohio is also made it illegal to film a police officer, and when a man got out of a ticket because the helmet cam for his motorcycle had proof the cop was lying, they sent him to jail for filming the cop.
This is also the state where Cardinal Zin wine cannot be sold because they have a state law that says you cant sell any alcohol with a depiction of children or clergy in any way (so many Trappist ales, produced by monasteries are illegal. Including St. Berabus, Brother David's, La Trappe, etc...)

Based on numbers, it will hurt NXN more than FL.
Needless to say, any state that gave two terms to Obozo isn't really any smarter than electing Bush.
All it is going to take is a set of parents suing a state association and the rules will get changed. It happened in Michigan with the volleyball season. A couple of angry parents sued the MHSAA because their daughters were at a "competitive disadvantage" for scholarships. I think any reasonable person would agree that not allowing athlete the opportunity to run in a national level meet would affect their scholarship potential.

Do you have a link for that? It is an issue I follow somewhat closely

Actually Ohio most recently voted for Obama. Which implies that current Ohio citizens, making this rule, are the same that voted Obama to the presidency.
looks like this won't stop private schools with money like st x who can easily fund the trip from sending their runners. Maybe i should say parents with money rather than schools.
Debbie Moore and the OHSAA ought to have a special place in hell set aside for them. They are a bunch of power hungry jerks out to ruin the HS athletic careers of honest hardworking athletes. They took away my senior cross country and track eligibility because of a technical issue involving transcripts from when I transferred schools sophomore year. I had to sit back and watch while this spring's d3 3200m race was won in 9:26. I ran in unattatched in a meet one week later and ran 9:11. I had a breakout season but never had the chance to compete in my state championship senior year because of an incredibly insignificant transcript issue.
Some folks have no common sense.
