Source please, thanks.
Cool, thanks.
Not true. Marry Wittenberg just said that the 5k has not officially been cancelled.

I spoke to someone who works with NYRR today. Several elite athletes who were due to take part have confirmed via twitter and other sources that they have been told that the race has been cancelled
Neely Spence who was to run the 5K and ride in the lead truck on Sunday confirmed that the 5K has been cancelled and she is not going at all.

So we now live in a day and age when a tweet from Neely SPence is believed more than a quote from the head of the NYRR.
It may be cancelled but that tweet was sent before Mary W said the following about the 5k "(There are) absolutely no changes at this time, but again, (we are) focused on Marathon Sunday and we'll keep you updated as soon as we have anything to share."
As a participant she is privy to more information than you. Therefore she is a more reliable source than you.
This may shock you, Rojo, but sometimes people make statements publicly that they contradict privately. Are you as a journalist really incapable of understanding that MW could make a statement about their being no changes, despite the fact that elites in the 5k already being told it was cancelled?!

As far as we know, the 26.2 mile marathon is still on, even if the 5k marathon is cancelled.
*there*
Ugh...I'm being assimilated by the poor grammarians on this site!
On a person level, if I was NYC resident and was told to leave the city for a couple of days, then I come home this weekend and find my home in need of repairs.... but can't start my recovery because of a marathon......some people or runners might get peppered sprayed!!!
People lives are more important than this race! Let them rebuild their neighborhoods, homes, businesses, and so on.....
