Looks like Newton finally scored a real credentialed runner. In his interview with Competitor Magazine, Fernando Cabada mentioned that his new sponsor is Newton Shoes. Is this their attempt to get into the real running scene?

link?
They've been sponsoring Zola Budd on the masters scene for a few years I believe.
They have a few top Triathletes, like Craig Alexander and Chris McDonald.
2:11:53 is not winning any major marathons nor is it producing any eyebrows to rise in today's very competitive sport. Frank Shorter ran 2:10:30 in December 1972...

I see that Stephanie Pezzullo runs for Newton and placed 10th in the Chicago Marathon this year in her debut in 2:32:42.
Checking the stats I see she has racked up 5 top 10 finishes in U.S. Championship events in the last 13 months.
I don't know how serious Newton is about getting into the sponsorship game but Pezzullo and Cabada are a decent start for a new shoe company if they are serious.
Does Cabada know who Newton was?
Cabada is a great inspiration to the Latinos in the us. He is a fighter.
What's so great about Cabada?
1. he boned my mother
2. Drinks like a fish
3. Looks like fabio
4. Doesnt have sponsorship by Nike,Adidas, Asics, Reebok, New Balance, Saucony,Puma,Under Armour, Li Ning
5. Runs for the love of sport
...., and still finished 6th at the Olympic trials

In what way is he an inspiration to Latinos in the US? I think German Fernandez and Leo Manzano are more of an inspiration than Cabada.
I am a close friend of Fernando and am a former teammate. He's one of the most talented people I have ever run with. Crazy ability. 2:11 isn't close to what he can do. With his level of ability 2:08 or lower is a real possibilty. He has a good coach in Brad Hudson, and with some consistency can run well under 2:10. He's only 30. Watch and see.
