What is the 8K course like: Can I run in road flats or should I wear spikes?
Being my former home xc course, I always preferred spikes, but I'm a purist
The course is 2 loops, both are SLIGHTLY over a mile so the course is a bit long. One loop is a mix of grass/cinder trail that goes around a pond and is very flat, the other one is a similar surface but goes through the woods. It also has a moderate hill in it, and the trail has some rocks. You do the pond loop 3 times and the woods loop twice in alternating order. I'd go with spikes.
Just be careful on the woods loop because there are a lot of rocks and you could slip back there, but the rest of the course is make for spike. I think you pass a couple of small paved trails, but the rest is on natural surfaces. Good luck.
The race was fun, with spikes for sure. Yes the hill loop was rocky. Spoke to a lot of college guys who are just full of life... College races go out soooo hard! Great fun men, the best for the rest of your XC season. Thanks for your help.
