My name is Patrick Dobson and I am a senior in the Industrial Design Program at KU working on my thesis. I am in the process of preparing some surveys and interview material. I was curious if anyone would be willing to talk about common injures among runners or themselves due to shoe design/what shoes you are most comfrontable in/what you think could be improved among running shoes/what shoes do you think are best for specific runners and situations/what parts of shoes do you see go first. And finally but not least if you know any runners or anyone you think I should talk to that would be willing to lend their insights and knowledge or would want to take a survey or do an interview. Also any information you think is pertinent or important would be much appreciated.
Here is the project statement:
Unlike the average American, a runner will go through 2-4 pairs of shoes depending on how many miles they run. Often many runners and athletic people alike never know what to do with the shoes when they are done with them, so the shoes are thrown away. I want to design a superior running shoe that would be made of post-consumer products, that would be easy to disassemble and the ability to be recycled into other shoes or given a second life, while still maintaining durability, comfort, and functionality. This would greatly reduce the solid trash in the world and allow somewhere for shoes to go when they are no longer wanted
